Haceta Head Lighthouse
ISO 125 1/125 f 13 90mm
It is always a challenge to capture a worthwhile image of an iconic landmark. Haceta Head lighthouse has been photographed millions of times and like almost all of the one trillion photos that float their way up to the internet every year most of the photos of Haceta Head lighthouse are not worthy of serious review. So as I contemplated how to shoot this image I thought of all of those photos that had already been taken and I chose to concentrate on what was different about what I was seeing in the moment. What drew my attention were the color gradations, the vertical spectrum of the dark blue of the sea at the bottom of the image up through the lightly hazed blue clouds at the top, and the horizontal transition of the dark green trees on the right blending down through lighter greens and finally the brown rocks as they meet the sea.
