This old tree had died and had been cut down many, many years ago. Then a small reservoir was built right next to where this tree once stood tall. As time went by the lake eroded the soil under the roots of the tree and it slowly fell sideways into the edge of the lake. The stump now points out into the middle of the lake and serves only as a reminder that there were once tall cottonwoods standing by the side of a stream that meandered across the plains.
