A Misty Morning on Arcadia Beach
ISO 100 1/100 f 10 40mm
I caught this image mid-morning as the fog was starting to dissipate. When I arrived on the beach it was empty and I thought to myself ‘What a perfect shot!’ I was excited to be able to capture an image without any people filling the frame with distractions. I set about getting my tripod and other gear arranged and I was just about to trigger the shutter when two women walked onto the beach in front of me. I was crushed, I felt my shot had been ruined and other parts of the beach were beginning to fill with people so I thought that I had lost my perfect shot. I waited a while as the women walked down the beach hoping that they would soon leave the frame. But other people were coming up behind me, I had to take the shot or just give up the opportunity. I triggered the shutter hoping that I would somehow be able to salvage a good image in post production.
It turned out that the two women were what made the image. They provided the necessary scale to make the view meaningful. Sometimes the universe gives you just what you need.
